I never did figure out what it was. I just sucked it out with a sanitized turkey baster. The
cider didn't taste off or anything. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

  • Posted in thread: Does FG affect the amount of priming sugar? on 04-27-2014 at 06:06 PM
I recently brewed an extract batch of pale ale. It started at 1.050 and after a month in
primary it is at 1.018. The final gravity seems a little high, but the fermentation doesn't
    seem to be going an...

  • Posted in thread: Brewhouse Pale Ale: FG seems a little high. on 04-27-2014 at 02:52 AM
I did take a hydrometer reading and take into account temperature. The instructions with the
kit were very vague about the FG as the same instructions come with every kit. It just said the

    took a reading...

So you wouldn't worry about the seal on the bucket?

  • Posted in thread: Borderline Brew Bomb: Foam escaped sealed bucket on 04-02-2014 at 02:25 PM
Two days ago I started a batch of Pale Ale. The morning after brewing, the fermentation bucket
was extremely swollen and a tonne of foam was escaping from the blow off tube. As the day
    progressed an i...

tastes fine, and it is not spreading.

Thanks for the advice pickled_pepper. I will keep my eye out for anymore goop in my cider.

So I just drew off the fermentation funk and it looks even more heinous up close. There is
    alcohol there, roughly 6%.
