  • I wear hats and jackets a lot. I love poker of all types. Although No Limit Texas Hold'em is predominant in the media right now, I enjoy Stud, Omaha, Razz, Split-pot games, oddball variations, whatever. I'm not much of a gambler otherwise, but d@mn I love me some poker.

And I love drinking beer while I play poker. And scotch. I am not knowledgable about scotch, but tHe best I have ever had is called Glenlivet Nadurra. It is aged for 16 years in toasted oak, and has 59.7% ABV. Best birthday I've ever had.

  • I threw together my first yeast starter (WLP039 - Nottingham Ale Yeast) on Thursday 10/14/10, and it's now chilling in the fridge. My virgin brew day will be Monday 10/18. I'm making a butchered version of an apple/raspberry wheat recipe.
  • Some kind of Stout for sure; I'm intrigued by the Irish Car Bomb Stout theory thread, and I love them, so I'll probably try that.

An IPA for sure. The only IPA that I definitely like is Lagunitas. I'm sure I've had others, but I love the high IBU flavor.

As for equipment, when I move on from the apartment lifestyle and into a home, I would like to build a mash tun, etc., and get into AG brewing. Right now I'm strictly Extract with specialty grain steeping.

Because you see it bubbling again, does not mean it is resuming an active fermentation. It is
releasing gasses, nothing more. Check your gravity with a hydrometer or refractometer for 3
    days running. ...

I had a few minutes, so I threw your recipe into BeerSmith. I set the style as a Scottish Light
60 Schilling, and it's pretty much in style. If you add another 2lbs of Amber DME, making it 3
    total, yo...

I don't know how to phrase this, so I'll just take a stab at organizing my thoughts. Boiling
hops for longer than 20 or 30 minutes destroys the more fragile elements that provide
    aroma/flavor, making ...

The OG estimate is per BeerSmith's calculations. Apple Juice has a SG of roughly 1.042. I used
that number for a 4 gallon batch of Edwort's Apfelwein, and I nailed the OG. But that's
    interesting with ...

Hi there. I'm making a 1 gallon test batch of brew, and it uses apple juice as an adjunct.
However, I want to mash 1.5# of 2-row in it, but I don't want to use 2qt of water in 1 gallon
    batch, so I'm w...

Hi. My friend's 24th birthday is coming up in a few months, and he asked me to brew him
something as a gift. Sounds easy enough. I asked what he might like, style-wise. This is
    verbatim: "Oh, I don't ...
