I would look into getting a grain mil and wort chiller. For the wort chiller I would just see
what a 25-50' section of copper tubing would run you and build your own; then you can save the
    bulk of the...

  • Posted in thread: How Do You Aerate? on 01-16-2015 at 05:45 PM
I aerate by siphoning the wort from my brew kettle to the bucket through a strainer for about
3/4 of it; then just dump in the last 1/4 through the strainer. All the while I am siphoning I
    will have a...

My 5 gallon glass carboy, and the funnel for it. After my 6.5 gal glass carboy's bottom fell
out for no reason (was sitting on the kitchen floor filled with water for over 30 minutes when
    I heard a lo...

If I would go about doing this I would start with just a few quick half gallon batches to see
what flavor combo helps. Might go the route of just doing some steeping grains with a little
    DME to make i...

  • Posted in thread: Can you secondary in a sealed jar? on 01-08-2015 at 02:40 PM
If FG has stabilized, I'm wondering why it's a bad idea? You carbonate in a sanitized glass
vessel, so as long as the jar can stand a little pressure, I don't see the difference. I could
    very easily b...

Put a piece of sanitized aluminum foil over the mouth of the jar; that way nothing bad can get
in put it can still out put some pressure if need be.

While it is sitting for the next week or two get yourself a hydrometer so that you can be sure
the yeast is done prior to bottling. You will want to take one reading then wait two days and
    take a seco...

Hi all, Thanks for the speedy responses! It seems the gallery here is rather mixed on what to
do. I am going to go with keeping it since I'm not too worried about the glass issue. I was
    able to recover...

Look at the bright side: it's better to find a mouse in an empty carboy than a full one.Of
course we don't really know if the carboy was empty before[/] the mouse fell in?
