  • I brewed a few batches when I was around 25yrs old, and haven't brewed again in 10yrs. At Xmas I was given a starter brew kit because I mentioned how much I missed it and just started brewing again this year (2010).rnrnSo far have brewed 2 batches... both 'can-kits' and as always came out less than desirable (and dumped down the drain).rnrnI came here for advice, learned that the can-kits are rarely good, and finally finished brewing my first real batch of beer using actual ingredients. Sadly... be 3 months minimum before I can see if any good.rnrnSetup wise, I have the basic brew kit of a primary fermenter, carboy, 32qt cooking pot w/lid, and the smaller items like spoons, funnels, hydrometers etc.

Actually, I did use Lalvin EC-1118. Bought it from the local wine making supply shop the day I

    bottles and h...

I need to look into forced carbonation ... rootbeer came out tasting fine, however, also has a
yeasty smell/taste that's killing the rootbeer flavour. Bottled were hard after just over a
    day, some put...

Well, I just meant that chemical artificial lemon like you would expect soap to taste like, or
lysol. Bottles were very well cleaned, some were never even used before so, unlikely the same
    contaminate...

Awesome... last time I bought it, it said champagne on the front in large letters, so just
wanted to make certain before I made 5 gallons of root beer with the wrong stuff. :D
