    ABOUT ME

  • Pacific Beach, CA
  • I'm a San Diego native who's all about computers and I.T. Currently an I.T. Administrator, I'm finishing up a degree in Software Engineering and starting my masters in Information Systems.

Now, I'm a Home Brewer too...and am thoroughly enjoying it.

  • I first became interested in Home Brewing when a neighbor of mine was just finishing his second batch. It was a custom Scottish IIPA, which I really enjoyed, as it had more malt than usual. Now, about 4 months later, my wife bought me my own brewing kit and I'm off to a great start. This hobby was love at first sip, and will continue to be so for a long, long time.

The blowoff's only purpose is to give intense amounts of krausen a place to go. Once the most
active fermentation is done (less than a week), just put an airlock on instead. That way, you
    also have pa...

Hey all, Anybody else going to this? Which time slot are you thinking about attending (11-3 or
4-8)? Looking forward to hanging out with some other local homebrewers from the forums and
    other.

Very nice on your first brew! Welcome to the addiction. I started in August of last year, and
now, about $1,200 later, I find myself with a full AG setup and a ferm chamber that can ferment
    50 gallons...

Just for anybody who may be reading this, doing what I did works perfectly. Take a piece of
cardboard, affix it to separate the air conditioned air outflow port from the mesh and coils at
    roughly a 45...

that is a shame but something that members need to be aware of. Wait wait wait, hold on a

I think I'm talking to myself here. Hah. Just checked on it again, and even though it was
frosted up a bit (not as much as before), the ambient temp was at 50^F. Wow! That cardboard
    ramp sure improved...

Still getting frost on the coils and mesh. Here's a couple pics of my AC unit. Since I'm not
super familiar with the airflow, I'm wondering if the cold air coming out the top gap is being
    immediately ...

  • Posted in thread: Rewiring mechanical A/C: Keep compressor on on 06-14-2010 at 10:01 PM
Alright, so I removed the front cover of the A/C unit to maximize airflow to the coils. Then I
filled every crack and gap with GreatStuff, so it should be pretty air tight inside. Then I
    placed 3 Damp...

A little ice the evaporator lead won't hurt anything, you have to worry about the coils
freezing over. Do you have all the covers on it? You've got to get more warmer air moving over
    the coils to keep...

Damn, just checked it (1 hour after it being on). The temp is down to 62^F, which is good, and
means it would have cut off soon, but the device to the left of the compressor was freezing
    over. I imagi...
