  • Don't quite know how I got into brewing, been into it for about 3 years now with the exception of taking a year off due to the Army sending me to Iraq for a yearlong vacation.

Past setup included a 5-gallon plastic fermenter that I bought with a brew your own beer kit, made a pretty good beer, no bombs and good AC. Did a little homework and found out that plastic can be problematic with sanitation so I discontinued the use of my 5-gallon fermenter and have been going with 1-gallon glass jugs for the past few months.

Currently, I am brewing 2 gallons of Sack mead, put them into secondary about a week or so ago and gravity is reading just above 8%
  • I have two recipes I will be trying out here very soon:
    1. Pyment with all natural comb honey from local stock
    2. Acerglyn using the same comb honey as the first and also using blueberry and a few other ingredients
  • Sweet Apple Cider
    Sack Mead
    Ginger Honey Mead
    Blueberry Honey Maple Syrup Mead
    Pear Mead
  • Male
  • Married
  • COLORADO SPRINGS

I agree no sugar, more honey. What was your SG at bottling? I believe that sweeter meads have
better mouthfeel and yield a better honey flavor. I have not yet tasted a dry mead that I was
    real fond of...

Do you think it would be too late to add more honey to the finished product, or would it just
be best to try again with another batch?

    itself came ...

I started a 5 gallon batch of raspberry apple cider a little over a month ago. Took a taste
today and found that it is extremely tart. I believe that the raspberry puree I used may have
    been too much,...

I have a case or two of flip-top bottles that should do the trick, I wasn't sure if I could
just put the finished cider straight into the bottles or not, or if I should put something in
    there. Thanks ...

The videos were quite informative however, I'm looking to bottle a non-carbonated cider, is
there a preferred way that people normally go about this that can be explained to me in simple
    terms?

Same here.Yeah, the little bit of down time I had needed to be filled with learning something,
