    That's true but air is a great insulator and natural wood tends to have pockets of air
    internally as well as between the two collar layers.

    What kind o wood did you use - is it red oak?The outer collar is Red Oak, the inside is pine.
    If you want to save some money, poplar is much cheaper and looks almost as good stained.
