  • First got into the idea of brewing by reading Garret Oliver's book The Brewmasters Table. In the back he suggests brewing a batch or two to really understand beer. That lead me to start saving beer bottles. I lugged those around to two different apartments until I got sick of them and threw them away. A year or two after that I convinced Santa Claus to get me a homebrew kit from an online brew shop and the rest is history.

Bottling wand and autosiphon. My first bottling session ever didn't use these. There never was
a second session without them. Also, I think my new propane burner will become one soon.

Can't believe I haven't thought of this or seen this post before. This probably explains
several batches where I have been under the target OG. Now I wish I didn't added more DME to
    boost it.

  • Posted in thread: Glass carboy vs. plastic bucket on 04-14-2013 at 04:15 AM
Every few months I keep coming back and searching this question. I like the bucket because it
is first and foremost cheap. It is also much lighter than glass. It is probably the main reason
    I don't at...

The holiday season is upon us and I thought I would take this opportunity to start
getting/giving myself the necessary equipment for all-grain. I specifically have a question
    about a propane burner to...

Funny I just listened to the old fruit beer episode of the Jamil Show on the Homebrew Network
and he was saying hoppy beers generally did not make good fruit beers since bitter and fruit
    did not gener...

I have a family reunion coming up, and I'm brewing a beer specially for it. Usually I would
want a label that could easily come off, but in this case I want to make a sort of a keepsake
    bottle for the...

  • Posted in thread: how to add coffee on 01-15-2012 at 05:20 AM
I recently did a cold steep. Took a half pound of coffee in 24 ounces of water, put it in a
sterilized jar in the fridge for 24 hours. Then I added it when I racked to secondary. Haven't
    tasted it, bu...

As a matter of fact I am looking for a homebrew club. The only home brewer I know lives in
Seattle and frankly all the non brewers around here are tired of my beer and brewing talk.

  • Posted in thread: How do you guys clean your glasses and how/where do you store them? on 08-31-2011 at 09:56 PM
I've been using a fragrance free detergent for all my hand washing since before I started
brewing (but after I started reading up on brewing) or in a pinch I throw them in the
    dishwasher. Then I try t...

Of the many places I lived in Chicago, lakeview was by far my favorite. Not to mention that
there are far better brepubs, restraunts, bars, and liquor stores to get good beer there than
    anywere else I...
