  • Posted in thread: Stainless shanks imparting a metal taste on 05-21-2011 at 05:56 PM
I just replaced all of my old chrome/brass shanks because they were turning green, had a slight
brassy taste on first pours, and I couldn't get them clean. I purchased new stainless shanks
    from microm...

  • Posted in thread: Mashing-Water or Grain First? on 03-08-2011 at 12:55 PM
I personally like adding the water first, grain second. That way the initial water addition
pre-heats the mash tun and I can add the grain exactly when the water hits the right strike
    temp. I feel I h...

  • Posted in thread: Question for Danby DKC645BLS owners on 01-14-2011 at 02:59 PM
I have that kegerator and I can fit 3 kegs, a 5lb C02 tank and a three regulator manifold
    inside. It's tight but doable.

Star San in a spray bottle works well for finding leaks too. Just another piece of advice...
prior to filling your keg with beer, clean it, sanitize it, and hit it with 30 psi and check
    for leaks. It'...

I pay 5 dollars to fill a 5 LB tank at tops liquor or at sun devel liquor here in phoenix. I
just filled two 5 LB bottles and got a mixed sixer of beers for 16 dollars on tuesdayTops rocks
    at only $1/...

  • Posted in thread: Using Knox gelatin for the 1st time on 12-12-2009 at 04:07 PM
I've used knox for some of my kegged blondes and lighter pale ales with great results although
I've never done a side by side comparison of the same brew with and w/o using the gelatin so I
    don't know...

  • Posted in thread: Effect of temp drift during the mash on 12-09-2009 at 05:58 AM
So I could do a little experimentation on some future brews but was wondering if anyone already
has this knowledge. Would these 2 scenarios result in a wort with the same amount of
    fermentable sugars ...

  • Posted in thread: Efficiencies Question on 12-09-2009 at 05:35 AM
Sounds like you might be having a pH issue in the mash being that your efficiencies are
changing based on the color of your beer. Check out Palmer's charts. This is just one potential
    cause though wit...

  • Posted in thread: Don't let Iodophor solution sit in your beer lines on 12-02-2009 at 03:19 PM
So I ended up replacing the line and the problem has dissapeared... no more weird taste in that
line. I did leave some star san in another line and it will be another week or so before I hook
    a keg up...
