  • Have spent 18 years working in the food and beverage business. Included in that was a strong background in sanitation, pasteurization, and processing. I enjoy making things from scratch especially food. So when I heard about brewing my own beer, I thought how cool would that be. Went to a local homebrew club meeting and met fellow homebrewers and it took off.
Only made a handful of brews so far, but have finally gone to full boils and now have a wort chiller. Am really interested in the science of brewing...mostly yeast. Hope to be all grain in the next year.

I've been using a 5 gallon paint strainer with no problems for a while now. If you have a good
rolling boil, you should get good utilization if they are submerged.

Another Ranco user that is happy. Yeah, once fermentation subsides you'll have to adjust the
controller, but who doesn't check their beer during fermentation often?

Same thing just happened with my Wyeast 1214 the other day. Only one broke and the package
didn't swell like it usually does. However, I made a starter so it didn't matter. I don't
    remember having 2 p...

Tomorrow from 5:00 till 7:00 it's cask night at the General Sutter in Lititz. Paul told me they

It's ok. I went to cool my wort in a snow bank today and after pulling the kettle out I
realized that I had set the kettle right on to a pile of my dog's **** that was under 10+
    inches of snow! The up...

I wouldn't have racked still fermenting! That's krausen and that tells you everything
is going fine. Did you check gravity? Racking to secondary is when your fermentation is winding
    down. Th...

Congrats on your first brew!:mug: As far as the vodka/water getting sucked in, don't worry
about it. If anything it will give your brew a little kick, but probably not much.

fat, but she'll sure give you a meal that's tasty and I bet she does wonders in bed. I like a
