Echoing everyone else -- spares are your friends. I have 3 tanks and it has saved me
repeatedly. Agree, 3-5 batches per tank.

Pouring slowly, I can pitch the entire starter but save the bar.If it goes in... no big deal. I
get it whenever I rack the beer (typically to the bottling bucket).

I'll try to take some pics tomorrow. For a 6.5 gal batch it takes about 15 min to get to mash
temp and I get about a degree per 1.5 min rise with grain and pump running during a step mash.
