I was looking at the same idea for my controller and setup....... I have decided to add a
selector switch to control either PID or pot (into ssr or ssvr), that way I don't need to go

Mine is still working like a charm. The ice bank control on mine is gone too, never worked
since I had it so I have a timer on the outlet that turns it on either 30-45 mins a day
