  • Posted in thread: 1st wine kit - Yeast Starter? on 01-11-2013 at 02:30 PM
I am going to make my first wine kit. It's the World Vineyard 10L Australian Shiraz kit. For
beer and cider, I typically make a yeast starter and sit it on a stir plate for a day or two.
    Should I make...

I am getting ready to make a Hop Head Double IPA kit from www.midwestsupplies.com. Here are the
instructions: is my first time doing a boil kit and have a question about adding the hop

  • Posted in thread: Why is my gravity going up? on 01-10-2013 at 04:52 PM
I am doing a simple Coopers no boil Irish Stout. The starting gravity on 12/20 was 29. I did a
1l starter and it popped down to 20 quickly and then fell slowly down to 16 on 1/5. On 1/7 it
    was up to 1...

Ok,gotcha. Letting average gravity ales sit that long seems to me would have faded hop
profiles. Do you ever notice any of that after they sit a few months? Seems like you
    should?...I am a lazy brewer...

I'm positive it said 3 weeks, not months when I first read it. 3-4 months is a bit long for pale
ales, but ok for darker, heavier stuff.I did not edit the original post. I guess most people talk
    in terms...

Bingo! Hit the nail on the head there, revvs! It's hard teachin those new to kegging that there
are no short cuts. The beer still needs a couple weeks conditioning time. That's why I've stuck
    with bott...

It sounds like I don't need the chest freezer but more kegs for a longer storage time is a good
idea. I have been conditioning the beer in the storage kegs for about 1 to 3 months before
    tapping them....

How much residue ends up in the bottom of the keg when it is done being poured? When I am
cleaning my empty kegs there is a thin layer of goop at the bottom. I am not cutting down my
    dip tubes. When I ...

I wonder if I should add cold crashing or cold conditioning of my kegs to my set-up. I make
beer, apple wine and soda and have a kegarator with a tap for each. The soda is easy; I just
    clean and refil...

  • Posted in thread: How long is too long on yeast? on 12-23-2012 at 12:37 AM
I have a Kegarator with 3 five gallon ball lock kegs and 4 additional five gallon ball lock
kegs for storage. I use 4 fermenters: 2 of the new style Coopers fermenters with no airlock and
    the removabl...
