    Has anyone fermented a one gallon batch in a milk container?It would work, but its tough to
    clean them, plus they will trend to get weaker over time. In a pinch, I'm sure it is fine.

    Amazon had refractometers for a about $20. You have to do some calculating once fermentation
    starts, but it only takes a drop of liquid to get a reading. I use mine all the time, I only
    use my hydrome...
