    I would just put a piece of old plywood, particle board, etc underneath it. The heat transfer
    capability of wood is very poor so it should protect your deck fine.

    Am I missing something? That's an expensive thermometer! Is there a distinct advantage to this
    one over the $10-$20 ones that seem to read temperature fine?
