  • I started homebrewing on a whim around 2000. Only did a few batches, and none were great. The third was terrible. I dumped it and quit. 9 years later I was older, had kids that were growing up, and began to be an active gardener. This led to making wine, which I found to be the most rewarding hobby I'd had in years. Wine led back to beer brewing because I only wanted to make wine with fresh local fruit and I was out of luck for the cold seasons in Michigan. My first batch of beer was a brown ale that I took much more time with and turned out pretty good. I was hooked, and now have dozens of carboys, a wort chiller, a big pot, and a lot of motivation.

Got mine too. Looks like my Brett/Oaked Saison got a 1st, but I'm unclear if that's just the
flight or if I won a medal. I'm happy with the score and remarks either way (42.5 score). My
    IPA scored a 3...

No, my check hasn't been cashed either. I used a drop off point, so I'm pretty sure they
would've gotten there. Just have to be patient for a couple of days I guess.

I've done it a few times now, and never did a side-by-side. Never really cared if it was exact,
cause it's always been damn good regardless.

I get no oak and little bourbon flavor as is. Chocolate and coffee dominate. Coffee in aroma
and chocolate in flavor. It's delicious, but I need a bit more. Swapping some base malt for
    sugar worked ou...
