Contemplating the same thing. Just brewed a Pumpkin Porter during the hurricane. It's bubbling
away right now. I was thinking about racking to secondary on top of a pumpkin spice tea for
    extra pumpkin...

You get that white film when you use oxygen products like oxiclean and don't rinse the item
well enough. In my opinion, putting the bottles in the oven is a bit much. When I bottled I
    would let me bott...

Not sure scientifically speaking but I'm sure someone will weigh in. I personally wouldn't feel
comfortable using them. I think what you did was a little excessive. I would start over. Good
    luck! :mug...

+1 for sweet potato as a substitute. I just made a thunderstruck ale variant and couldn't find
any canned pumpkin either (well, I did at Whole Foods, but I'm too frugal to use organic

Its been about 15 batches since I did this one. Those who like stouts enjoyed it but I thought
it was funky from the yeast. That being said if I were to do it again I'd rack to secondary
    this time. I'...

I brewed this on Wednesday. Everything went as smooth as could be..except...I forgot to take a
gravity reading before I sealed the lid and put the air lock in. haha. No biggie. I steeped the

Or do what most people here do, don't rack at all. Leave for two, three, dare I say four weeks.
Then bottle.I want to see the gallup poll!! :D

  • Posted in thread: To secondary or not secondary on 08-03-2011 at 03:49 AM
I don't secondary any more. It seems like extra work. I give it three weeks and give the yeast
a chance to clean up after themselves. There are two sides to this issue and many people are
    passionate a...
