  • Started with Mr. Beer back around 2009 or so and have slowly slid deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole. Put my first all grain into the fermenter on 1/7/2012 after realizing I could use software to adjust 5 gal recipes down to 3.5 gal that I could boil in my existing pot.

I've also been in amateur radio since 1987 and heavily involved in "homebrew" there. That hobby led me into a career in communications where I am now the Technical Services Manager for my county 911 as well as running my own consulting practice.

I have vowed to never let brewing become a career for me however. I don't enjoy ham radio like I used to and I don't want brewing to ever lose that magic.

  • Just getting started with all grain after having brewed about 30 5 gal batches of extract beers and about as many Mr. Beer kits before that.

I've got a 48 qt rectangular Igloo cooler that I have put a ball valve on and installed a stainless steel mesh hose. I boil with a 10 gal aluminum pot and cool with a home built immersion chiller.

My question is if it will get enough air to breathe this way. Well, not just enough, how will
this effect your fuel economy. Do let us know.

Go to the hardware store and get yourself some copper tubing. Wrap it around a paint can or keg
to form it. Then just clamp on some hose and you're good to go. Very inexpensive compared to
    buying some...

My first all grain was just adjusted so I could do everything using my existing extract
equipment. I just used brewtarget to adjust for 3 gallon boils and used the family picnic
cooler as a MLT. My in...
