  • My brother in law started with a Mr Beer kit a few years ago and moved to a bucket shortly after using kits. I brewed with him once and liked it. I bought a kit for my first, then Brew Smith a few months later to start modifying what was in the kits and making some crazy stuff. Some of it worked and some did not. About a year after getting started I got a 5 gallon water jug and converted it into a mash tun. Now it has a stainless steel valve and screen, an insulated lid (big help) and a brewmometer. It took a while but I think I have the all grain working now.
  • I really like my Fat Tire Clone, but I am also brewing something between XX Amber and Boston Lager. I am having a good time with that one. I am starting to get more into Hops. I don't know if my tastes have changed or what, but I like more hops in my beer now than a few years ago.

I going to be experimenting with some ideas around no sparge and double infusion mashing when
school starts back. My first question is on No Sprage. Of people that have done that, do you
    like putting ...

I have not used my edge star mini keg in a long time, but I think the issue is that it sits on
a cold plate. The beer at the bottom is cold which is needed for serving as it comes off the
    bottom, but ...

If it is a partial mash you can add .25 lbs of base malt, if it if an extract with steeping
grains, I am guessing there is more than just the one bottle. Either another 3lbs of LME or DME
    and in that ...

I do shrimp boils in my brew pot and have not been able to get any beer flavor in the food. I
may swing by the keg and start with a gallon of beer, 2 gallons of water, and a cup of Cajun

  • Posted in thread: Bad efficiency on first 2 AG batches. Could it be pH? on 02-22-2012 at 02:22 AM
I would look at temperature first. Boil some water and check the temperature of it. If it boils
at 205 your thermometer is off and you need to allow for the difference. You may be mashing
    very hot or ...

I did a lot of fat tire extract kits before getting into all grain. The best thing I did back
hen was increase to a 4 gallon boil. You can reduce your bittering hops about 5% or just go

I just froze 6 half liter Dr Pepper bottles and 2 two liter bottles. I give them a little
squeeze before putting the lid on to allow for expanding.
