Here:"Most enzymes can be denatured—that is, unfolded and inactivated—by heating or
chemical denaturants, which disrupt the three-dimensional structure of the protein. Depending
on the enz...Posted in thread: Spinning fly sparge is awful! on 12-09-2011 at 06:19 PM
Ha ha ha, perhaps everyday I will have large boxes covered with question marks and filled with
the appropriate ingredients. Or perhaps the secret ingredient will be people. Yes, yes that
will work nic...Posted in thread: Spinning fly sparge is awful! on 12-09-2011 at 06:13 PM
Real quick, since everyone is checking this post out. If you take a mash to a temp capable of
denaturing the enzymes, they are no longer able to do any starch conversions, right? If you
drop back down...Posted in thread: Spinning fly sparge is awful! on 12-09-2011 at 05:15 PM
What, you can't run a HERMS on a tiered sculpture? It was the most appropriate image to fit in
the small area next to Gollum. I take offense to the Microsoft comment. But, I suppose I'll
have to deal ...Posted in thread: Spinning fly sparge is awful! on 12-09-2011 at 03:07 PM

notice an...Posted in thread: Spinning fly sparge is awful! on 12-08-2011 at 09:00 PM
Yes quite low. What temp are you using for the HERMS/HEX bath? As long as your 'HEX out' temp
is within 1-2 degrees of the mash temp, it isn't a huge issue, but I try to keep the bath
within 7F or so ...Posted in thread: Spinning fly sparge is awful! on 12-08-2011 at 08:13 PM
Right on, I'll give that a try. Does anyone use iodine to check how well the conversion has
worked?if your gravity is low from your first x minutes of sparging I'm having trouble figuring
out how it i...Posted in thread: Spinning fly sparge is awful! on 12-08-2011 at 07:30 PM
I would have to have to agree with you that it's overkill. Perhaps the stirring will help my
situation. Using less water would be great, but if we find our gravity is very low we would
have to continu...
