Before I try my next batch of something similar I plan on getting an activated charcoal filter

According to LHBS Wyeast Eau de vie will consume 24lbs of sugar for a 22%+ batch. It was still
going at that point apparently. I'm sure it tastes like absolute jet fuel though.
