  • Brewed Approximately 30 extract batches in college and grad school back in the early to mid 90's. Got back into it back in 2007 or so, with two friends. We went AG, and got into kegging. Just started brewing at my house again, Memorial Day 2011. Have a large, custom kegerator that needs to be filled!

  • Posted in thread: 2 free kegs!! What to do on 07-04-2012 at 09:57 PM
I brew with a three keggle system. I would agree with the priority: first keg becomes brew
kettle, second keg becomes HLT. The reason the mash tun is the lowest priority to make out of a
    keg is becaus...

  • Posted in thread: Is the Bayou Classic KAB6 Too Much For A 5 Gallon Kettle? on 06-24-2012 at 05:12 AM
I can't say I've used the KAB6 for 5 gallon batches, but I use one for 10 gallon batches and I
bet you could turn it down to where it would be fine. That said, if you're serious about the 10
    gallon ba...

I'm going to second the StarSan suggestion. Use it. Love it. Don't fear the foam.

Does this wrench work on the weird star-shaped posts?Yes. I tried it on one of mine. That's
apparently what 12 point means. Still works on regular style too.

  • Posted in thread: Parti-gyle advice on 06-23-2012 at 03:34 AM
I've only done one partigyle and it was a while ago, but I did use BeerSmith. What I did was
create a parent recipe that was as if it were not a partigyle brew at all, but without hops and
    yeast and s...

  • Posted in thread: By Golly do I love a good porter. on 06-22-2012 at 08:12 PM
My first homebrew way back in 1992 was a porter because I was a fan of Wild Goose's porter. Now
it's tied for first as my favorite style, along with about ten or fifteen other styles!
    ;)Still, Porter ...

Sorry, got too busy for Homebrewtalk for a while there and, unfortunately, too busy to brew for
some of that time. Three kids will do that to you.Just got back into things with two batches a

Any hefeweizen or blonde ale is always a good candidate. I've done both with fresh
strawberries. About half a flat of strawberries in 5 gallons works well. Add them after primary
    fermentation has woun...

I was feeling pretty excited that I found this wrench for the same purpose on my own and was
going to post something about it here, but I see, as usual, HBT has already covered this. Great
    wrench. Mak...

  • Posted in thread: Going back to extract for 1 batch after 5 years of AG Question. on 12-05-2011 at 03:53 AM
I too did an extract batch recently after a long stretch of all grain, mostly because I wanted
beer and didn't have a lot of time to brew. I just steeped in my full boil volume and it was
    fine.In fact...
