  • Posted in thread: boiling hops w/beer to increase bitterness on 05-05-2010 at 08:09 PM
To update: ...I would definitely do this again, should I ever need to. The only thing I would
do differently is do it earlier! Yeah, I could have drunk the remaining gallon as it was, but
    now I feel c...

I drop the temp below 170 and turn off the chiller then add my aroma hops, stir for 20 minutes,
the chiller back on. very nice aromas without adding any bitterness. This is what I did for my

Hey guys, I know everyone does things different, But I am interested in what people do for zero
minute hop additions. Do you add the hops and immediately and start to cool your batch? I seem

Seems to me that the only sanitary weld of a coupler to a keg would be welding from the inside,
and I don't know anyone that does that. Maybe someone with more welding exp. could speak to
    that tho.

What you are seeing is most likely minerals that have precipitated from your water, not
oxi-clean. Rinse with Star-san and you should be good to go. No worries. :)

Just another reason to use StarSan over Iodophor... well just assuming, but I really hope it
was StarSan since you said you are going to drink it anyways.:mug:

I don't direct fire my MLT and wanted better performing insulation than the refletix stuff I
see a lot of people use. I found that the 2' x 4' sheets of 1/2" polystyrene insulation at Home
    Depot are f...

You'll be fine with 11g of Notty, don't worry about it. Rehydrating your dry yeast it is
    probably a good idea too.

What does this water look like if you let it sit for 2 weeks? I'd bet that it clears itself of
    silt pretty well.
