  • I'm pretty new to beer in general, taste as well as crafting.

My downfall was an amazing Oatmeal Stout... I fell in love with beer and I want to someday get to that level of amazing.

Also, I'm a baker. Making beer is just my natural next step.
  • A particularly awesome Chocolate Raspberry Stout got me interested in beer in general. As it turns out, one of my friends was dating a guy who was a homebrewer. She bought me my first instructional book, and I took off from there.

My first brew was a Muntons Pale Ale, very straight forward. My next was a partial extract, an Amber Wheat Ale. I attempted a Maple Porter, but I was disappointing with the results. I really think it was a recipe failure.

Barkshack Gingermead is currently aging in my secondary, so I won't know the results of that one for a while.

Next up is a Double Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, and I can't wait.

I agree, I'd rather leave it in primary longer then bottle or transfer it to secondary.

This went into the primary last night, 1.080 hydrometer reading. Pitched at around midnight or
so, and fermentation is giong quite well 7 hours later. I don't think I've ever seen
    fermentation kick in...

My primary bucket almost never bubbles through the airlock, but I haven't had a bad brew
yet.Airlock bubbling is no indicator of fermentation activity, so don't worry too much about
    it. As long as you...

A Belgian dark strong ale and a Belgian dubbel. Been in bottles for month eachDid you keep
notes on the recipes you used, your gravity readings, or your length of fermentation?

  • Posted in thread: Air Lock on secondary fermenter on 03-24-2012 at 01:49 PM
Did you take 2 consequetive gravity readings over a three day period to determine fermentation
was complete BEFORE you racked? There's no reason for any active fermentation in a
    secondary.Don't worry ...

Primary: Amber Wheat Ale, Double Chocolate Oatmeal Stout Secondary: Barkshack Gingermead
