A pressure could would only allow you to cook the wort at a higher temperature. I don't foresee
this being advantageous.

It is also easier to judge fermentation in a clear vessel than in a brown on. I use my old
college bath towels to wrap around my carboy in addition to keeping them in a dark place.

I agree with Doolittle, the hydrometer should work as long as it measures high enough SG that
you will be brewing. Also, make sure to sanitize it really well... you probably don't want any
fishy or sa...
