I have one of the old 5 gal galvanized wash tubs that I use. Set the tank in and pour 2 or 3
gals of water in, the water doesn't have to be hot. Works great.

There we go. I thought that might be the case. It looks like either method will work. 3.8 Alpha
    divided by 5 x 6.5oz = 4.94.Thanks for the help.

Uh, not quite. You divide 5 by 3.8 and multiply that by .5. You need about 1/3 oz of the 3.8%
hops. That doesn't look right. Do you mean that I need 1/3 more hops? The original called for
    .5oz.

that I have are 3.8% Alphas. Can someone tell me how to make the conversion to add the proper
    amount of ...

I misread the recipe on my last brew, an ESB. I added one tsp of irish moss at 10 min instead

Thanks for everybodys help with this. The hydrometer sample was clear and had a beer odor. It

Check your thermometer at mash temperatures. If you mashed at 154, without an infection or some
other problem, your beer shouldn't have gone that low. The yeast strain matters, but even
    though S05 is ...
