    ABOUT ME

  • New Haven
  • PhD student
  • Starting brewing beer in college, where I quickly got frustrated with the nasty sludge I was producing. Pretty much thought good homebrew was a myth. A few months ago tasted a friend's homebrew that was phenomenal and thought I should maybe give it another try. Now, I am obsessed.

Thanks for the replies so far. I tried increasing the pre-heat water temperature to about 180
instead of 160. This resulted in a slightly less of a drop in temperature (152 -> 146), though
    not sure if...

I just bought an generic 5 gal igloo container and converted it into a mash tun. I have been
testing out the temperature control ability of this cooler by putting in a known volume of

For a simple Pale Ale, in addition to using other grains, like Munich and Crystal, would adding
in a pound of Maris Otter (as opposed to American 2-row) add anything noticeable to the final
    beer? What...
