- How to Brew, Brewing Classic Styles, Yeast
- I started brewing in Oct '10 with an experienced neighbor. After brewing several times together, I began brewing on my own in Jan '11 - all extract with specialty grains. My current goal is to brew all the beginning recipes from Brewing Classic Styles. At this point, my failures out-number my successes, but I have recently figured out a solid process that works, so that ratio should tip the other way in the near future.

Just made a starter for a batch that I hoped to brew yesterday but it didn't work out. I

Thanks for the tips! I will decant off the starter wort and not worry about the nutrient.Posted in thread: Two starter questions on 06-10-2012 at 04:09 AM
1) do you account for the volume of the starter (1-2 L) in the final volume of the beer - so
that you don't have too much wort?2) if adding nutrient to the starter, is it not necessary to
add more nut...Posted in thread: My first time with a yeast starter... a little yeast Affection on 06-10-2012 at 04:06 AM
I have two recommendations:1) buy a copy of the book Yeast by Chris White & Jamil Zainasheff.
Pages 133-138 cover starters in great detail, but the entire book is well worth reading.2)
check out yeast...Posted in thread: Using Mr Malty Calculator on 04-12-2012 at 04:42 AM
+1 for the recommendation of yeastcalc.com! Great site! Plenty of excellent, relevant
information and is very ease to use. Thanks!Posted in thread: My shortest lag time ever using bottled slurry. on 04-12-2012 at 04:34 AM
I just harvested some 1056 from an APA that I bottled last week, and pitched it into a Robust
Porter. It had some lag time due to low temps, but now it is going strong with a blow-off tube.
The yeast ...
