wow, I have the SAME exact problem with my hoppy beers. They just taste a bit dull, slightly
vegetal, a little fusel-alcoholy, and caramel-ish (even though I use barely any caramel malt).
I mean, the ...Posted in thread: Help with Honey Ale Recipe on 04-04-2013 at 08:47 PM
Holy Jesus, don't leave it that long at 30 psi. It will turn out like soda (or even more
carbed)Turn it down to 11 or 12 psi and let it sit to carbonate. It probably tastes flat
because you are blowin...Posted in thread: newcastle clone off flavors on 03-21-2013 at 06:51 AM
lol non salty bad bacon? I can't relate to that at all. But I will agree that Notty (and S-04
as well) at higher temps do not turn out well. If the first 48 hours or so were overly warm,
then it was d...Posted in thread: NEED HELP with IIPA water profile on 03-13-2013 at 05:00 PM
Sweet Jesus lawd almighty have mercy on that IIPA. Dont use that water profile. If you want to
make correct adjustments, download Bru'nwater and aim for the pale ale profile. And see how you
like that...Posted in thread: Calculating IBU from hopped starter on 03-12-2013 at 08:09 PM
I'd be hard pressed to say it would matter much. 1000 mL isn't a large percentage of 6 gallons.
I mean if you absolutely wanted to make sure you could just approximate by 95% of the beer

One packet is not nearly enough for 10 gallons in the 1060's. When pitching two packets, one
strain tends to dominate the other so the finished flavor profile is hard to comment on. I
can't comment on...Posted in thread: Advice on IPA recipe on 03-03-2013 at 05:48 PM
I agree watching out with the golden naked. It can lend an odd (for my taste) tart berry/fruit
flavor in high amounts. Not quite what I look for in an IPA. Also, the victory adds a nice
toasted aspect...Posted in thread: Competition question on 03-01-2013 at 01:42 AM
You'll have to read the competition rules. Some allow you to enter two in the same category if
they are in different subcategories. For example, American IPA and English IPA, 14B and 14A.
Some only al...Posted in thread: My first competition score sheet is in. on 02-28-2013 at 11:32 PM
Holy Acid Malt BatmanI would take other people's suggestions and build a water profile. I don't
think Acid malt is meant to be used like that. Congrats on your first competition though!Posted in thread: My beer is dying! Oh, the horror!.... The agonizing horror! on 02-28-2013 at 11:16 PM
Its your first batch. I had to navigate through a minefield of exploding bottles with my first
batch. Funny enough it was a stout with cocoa powder, bakers chocolate and coffee!Anyways, you
bottled 4 ...
