  • Posted in thread: Should I boil my spring water before adding it to the wort/primary? on 03-22-2009 at 06:26 PM
It can't hurt, but I usually don't bother, and it's never been a problem.

  • Posted in thread: Yeast nutrients on 03-22-2009 at 06:24 PM
I have used yeast nutrient in beer before, with no ill effects. However, it's not usually
necessary. The malt and hops should give the yeast all the nutrient they need.

  • Posted in thread: Quick Question about adding Honey... on 06-20-2008 at 06:05 PM
I usually add it about halfway through the boil, but I'm not sure if it makes a difference.

  • Posted in thread: Turbo Lager? on 06-20-2008 at 06:03 PM
I would say yes. Lagers take longer to ferment out, and the clearing stage takes time. I would
add a couple of days to the first and third stages.

  • Posted in thread: Bagel dispute: open vs. closed on 06-15-2008 at 12:10 AM
Open with cream cheese, closed with any kind of meat... Hmmm bacon...Do lox count as meat, in
    your opinion?

  • Posted in thread: did I properly oxidize my beer? on 06-06-2008 at 04:45 AM
    Probably, yes.

  • Posted in thread: 5 gallons for every beer? on 06-06-2008 at 04:01 AM
Covering is a bad idea, BTW. It holds stuff in (sulfur compounds, I believe) that can cause
nasty flavors in your brew.DMS (cooked vegetables), especially if you have pilsener malt in the
    brew.

  • Posted in thread: Serious Question (Broken Thermometer in Beer) on 06-06-2008 at 03:57 AM
If they're little black balls, though, they are not mercury. Mercury is a silvery liquid. Most
    thermometers are not mercury.

  • Posted in thread: 5 gallons for every beer? on 06-06-2008 at 03:09 AM
It depends how long you boil for, whether you cover, and how big your boil is. I tend to lose
    about 5 liters.

Better than Pittsburgh, anyway. If a Canadian team doesn't win, I guess Detroit is second best.
