The only thing I noticed was the typical sediment at the bottom due to being bottle conditioned
(and maybe some hop debris...the beer is so dark I couldn't really tell when I started hitting
the trub ...

Personally I just say use DME to make starters. Are you really saving enough $ to make it
worthwhile? Plus the low but possible risk? If you want to use your wort how about keep doing
what you do now ...

it carbed up in 3 days and was gushing by.It takes longer than 3 days to carb a beer. At 7 the
co2 hasn't had enough time to 'become one' with the beer. That's probably why it gushed. Try 3
weeks in ...

Yeah my bad I plugged the numbers in wrong in Beersmith. 3 ounces at 60 minutes will barely put
you into IPA territory.

I'd up the 60 minute edition up to 2 ounces. That will put you in the IBU range for an IPA.
