I was having a similar issue; my pale ales were extremely thin even though I was mashing at

I've had that happen a couple of times and ended up OK. If it's still flowing like lava it's
pushing everything outwards, making it impossible for anything to go inward.

From what I've listened to on The Brewing Network they (Jamil & John - Brew Strong) said to
keep it consistent as possible. Better to keep it at 68 steady then swing down & up.
