  • McSwiggin, rnrnI tried following your directions and my pork/apfelwein isn't showing any signs of activity. I decided to make a larger batch that your one cup recipe. I went with five gallons. I cooked the meat, added the butter & S&P, added the shallots, and sauted everything. I added this mixture along with saurkraut, German potato salad, and bacon grease into my 6.5 gallon carboy. I then added enough apple juice to top off the carboy. Once the temp was down to 70 degreess I pitched the yeast. I haven't seen any sign of activity. Frankly the mixture in my carboy looks like $hit. I'm not so sure your recipe is that good.

Yeah, i get what you're saying. On the local brewery tours in Vancouver, I see they ferment for
4-10 days, then put into bright tanks for at least 2 weeks, 5 weeks if its a lager. I was sort
    of hoping...

Please don't repitch onto the entire yeast cake. This is my house strain and I love its
flocculation, but it does cause difficulties when harvesting. I also like how quickly it
    ferments. I try to emula...

Thanks Nateo! I'm guessing you've tried this with the ESB yeast? It's 7 days in from pitching
now and the beer is very clear already, I was wondering about the flocculation and all of a

I have a funny video that someone made about a LHBS shop. Check it out! [ame] I'm not saying
that the store you went to was this bad, but the video is just hilarious. The one and only LHBS

I was wondering if I could get some advice on repitching using a Wyeast 1968 ESB. I bought the
large size of smack pack that swelled very quickly, so didn't bother with a starter and it
    seems to have ...

Wow, urine seems to be a popular choice. Is it a coincidence on HBT or the worldwide solution
to herbicides? Depends how crowded your region is I suppose.

hjd: don't soak them completely immersed in solution. Wash the outside and lip well with hot

Now that I've thought about it, as I have a similar bucket, I'd just let the maggots hatch and
take some pictures of whatever comes out of the larvae. In the meantime, its off to get a
    closed system.
