    I do what I've seen "real" brewers do on TV. Dip your stirring spoon into the wort and let a
    few drops fall on the meter. Works fine for me too....

    I've never had anything close to diacetyl in any brew I've made with 002. The funky tart taste
    that comes from British yeast, (which I've grown to detest)....tons of it.

    If your doing an extract kit, I would just use the OG that came with the directions.
