  • Started with a Mr. Beer Kit. Blew up a couple growlers and that started my love of homebrewing. The beer was interesting but "I made it". Next I bought a 5 gallon fermentor and a homebrew extract kit and have since made about 9-10 batches. I can honestly say they are better with every batch. I am ramping up to an All Grain set up and I need to find one more keg to build one more kettle. Then weld up a frame and get the necessary burners, valves, hoses etc. etc. Hopefully by this summer I will crack into my first AG recipe.

Any thoughts as to how we ended up at a 1.071 OG as opposed to a 1.084?

Brewed an IIPA last night and we originally set out to have a big beer with an OG of 1.084. We
used 11 ounces of mostly whole hops. After cooling and aerating we used about a gallon of top
    off water t...

You are correct. Could just saw the bottom part off and use that airlock strictly for blow off
    tubes. Good point!

I just used an old airlock and removed the upside down thimble looking part and then installed
    the hose.

Is the only benefit to having two pumps that you don't need to move hoses from vessel to
vessel? That's all I can see. I bought all cam lock fittings so it should be relatively quick
    to move destinati...

I originally wanted to build just a single tier system as I have 1 pump that could move wort
