Oops - sorry I missed your post. I ended up doing exactly the same thing.

I know what you mean about the excitement of switching to all grain, as it's only been in the
last couple years that I did so. Due to that fact, feel free to take anything I might say with
    a grain of ...

  • Posted in thread: First ever brew=horrible mash temps! on 12-22-2014 at 07:01 PM
I'm also a 5 gallon batch / 15 gallon pot brewer. I'd echo the comments on mash times not
needing a full hour. I find that my 2 layer reflectix jacket and an old comforter are enough to
    hold temps wit...

  • Posted in thread: No kreusen with 05 in a dark beer? on 11-28-2014 at 02:14 AM
I used US05 in an imperial stout a couple months ago, and as I recall, there was krausen.
Looking back at my notes, I rehydrated, but I don't think that this would account for the
    presence or absence ...

Is your gas bottle cold? Full bottles of CO2 sometimes don't like to go from liquid to gas or
something when they are cold. You still get gas, just not what ya think. I keep my gas bottles
    at room tem...

Hmm... I was going to ask if there was any way the CO2 could be leaking out, but if you're
getting CO2 when you release the safety that doesn't seem likely. Something else you could try
    would be to pu...

Possible to be overcarbed? Are you getting a lot of foam when you pour?Absolutely zero
foam...I've never done it, but I am thinking of rolling the keg on the floor with some pressure
    applied.

Are you sure you're getting CO2 into the keg? I would recommend making sure your tank and
regulator are one and the QD is firmly pushed onto the post. What happens when you pull the
    manual release in ...

Hi all,I have an imperial stout that finished out around 1.025 with an ABV of 9.75%. Finished
higher than I wanted, but so be it.I normally force carb in the keg, cold crashing to around
    36-38 degrees...

  • Posted in thread: 30# grain bill in 15g pot? on 11-25-2014 at 06:58 PM
I'm my opinion this would be more of a traditional all grain setup since all the water isn't in
the pot from the beginning. Don't want to start a debate. Since you'll have a thicker mash you
    should pr...
