Visually they don't look too far gone. I've received smack packs in the mail that look way

I'd be leery of using anything except DME and yeast nutrient for a starter. There won't be

Also may want to consider - I think US-05 is the same strain as 1056, but it's dry, easier to
handle, and cheaper. I save my liquid yeast budget for weird strains. I got some Pac Man yeast
