  • After a trip to the UK back home to the UK, I decided I was tired of paying over inflated prices for beer. Naturally brewing my own was the answer :)

I'm running a 5 gal Rubbermaid drink cooler with a false bottom, my BK is a 32 qt Megapot with a Bargain Fittings weldless ball valve and sight glass. I use a 25' 1/2" diameter immersion chiller.

Yep. What trips me up is when I change multiple things at once... my most recent batch of
bitter uses different yeast, has a little bit of caramel malt, and biscuit instead of victory.
    Some aspects ar...

    Yep, CO2 bubbles and yeast.

Is there krausen? Airlocks are not good indicators of activity.

Recipe formulation is my favorite part of the process. Once I've brewed something, all I'm
thinking of is what I'm going to brew next. I'd actually rather design recipes and brew more
    often than drink...

I'm curious what the division out there is amongst brewers between whether you like to brew
existing recipes or crafting your own. Granted this is a fairly non-scientific poll and doesn't
    account for ...

I heated 3 gal of the apple juice and steeped the hibiscus in it for a while. I steeped it at
175F to make sure the hibiscus didn't bring anything to the must I don't want.

A couple of weeks ago I tried Viking Blod, and it was amazingly delicious. I figured I might as
well have a go at making some mead of my own, and since I really like jamaica (hibiscus tea), I
    figure t...

I make a habit of not converting volumes to weights or vice versa, so I can't speak to the
conversion to tbsp, but it is a fair amount of malic acid, so I bet your not far off with your
    conversion. En...

Here is the finished product. It has had some mixed reviews. My sister and SWMBO say that it is
too bitter. Would I just reduce the tannins and malic acid to make it less bitter?78076Looks a
    bit cloud...
