Posted in thread: No action in the airlock on 02-26-2013 at 05:55 PM
Things are fine! I had the same issue recently and I thought something was wrong. Of course I
came here and asked. Like everyone is saying, the airlock doesn't monitor fermentation. I had a
7 gallon b...Posted in thread: Bottling and Carbonating - 1st brew questions on 02-26-2013 at 03:02 PM
I used to add regular sugar and then I started to use the sugar drops but it was a pain to
measure enough for each bottle or to drop one tab in every bottle. Like Revvy said, you are
stuck with the am...Posted in thread: Bottling and Carbonating - 1st brew questions on 02-26-2013 at 01:17 PM
How are you integrating the priming sugar? If you're using a prime tab, then yeah going
directly from the fermenter is fine...BUT unless yours is equipped with a spigot, trying to
manitain a siphon fr...Posted in thread: Do you use yeast nutrient on 02-25-2013 at 03:16 PM
I just started using yeast nutrient in my last two batches. I have noticed a significant
difference in how active my fermentation is since I have been using it.Posted in thread: Reused yeast for the first time...not much happening on 02-25-2013 at 11:52 AM
It might be a good idea to have a blow-off tube handy. Lots of folks report a slow start
followed by a very vigorous fermentation when pitching most or all of a yeast cake like

We have bubbles! So would making a starter off the yeast cake be a good idea next time?Posted in thread: Reused yeast for the first time...not much happening on 02-24-2013 at 01:25 PM
I had a american brown ale that I just bottled and I had an IPA kit so I figure I would save
myself a little money and reuse the yeast since both kits call for the same yeast. So yesterday
I bottle th...Posted in thread: differneces in when to put in malt extract on 02-12-2013 at 07:53 PM
Awesome thanks. The instructions in the link given were very similar to the way the
instructions were from AHS for the recipe that I got. The only difference I did was that I
sparged my specialty grai...Posted in thread: differneces in when to put in malt extract on 02-12-2013 at 03:57 PM
Ahhh thanks. That makes sense. So it's not really necessary to boil the extract for such a long
time, unless you want to boil it for a different taste? Does it affect the fermentable sugars?Posted in thread: differneces in when to put in malt extract on 02-12-2013 at 02:54 PM
So I have done a couple of recipe kits and I was wondering why one kit has me put my malt
extract in at the beginning of the boil and another has me put it in at the end and let it sit
for 10 minutes....
