Thanks for replies. when I said a 2L starter I was referring to the size of the flask, sorry.
The only reason I wanted to downsize the container is because that flask takes up a lot of room

I see one of the extract recipes for a pilsner (Saphir Pils) calls for 2# DME for 60 min. then
