Sparging twice only makes sense. But make sure to keep that pH in check, particularly on the
2nd sparge, as most wort has been drained already, and depending on the alkalinity of the
    water, it can buf...

Although BS' mash calculator works fine, when it comes to actually mashing in I use Brew365's
mash calculator for volume and strike temp and that at 4°F higher than calculated due to loss
    of heat duri...

I saw this.As a Maryland resident, I'm going to disagree with this. :) We've got some damn good
breweries here. They discuss Flying Dog, which is good stuff...don't get me wrong. However,
    we've got Bu...

Grain crush typically determines 90% of your efficiency, given that all other mash parameters
are within target range, pH, temp, water/grain ratio, stirring, etc.Have you measured volumes
    and gravity ...

I would not use Aluminum, it dissolves in both acids and alkali. Since the mash is acidic, it
will create all kinds of interesting Aluminum salts. :drunk:But why? Doesn't your manifold work
    well enoug...

Any issues with having aluminum in the mash tun? I wanted to experiment with putting a screen
on top of my CPVC/copper pipe manifold. Just for fun (nah, really to see if there's any impact
    on efficien...

I think that comes from some observations Fred Bonjour has made. But I have to question it.
According to an experiment done by Greg Doss of Wyeast, 153F yields maximum fermentability. He

$60 for a ball lock isn't bad I guess. I could actually go there but I am already committed to
pin lock :( I know I could buy conversion kits but then the price is too high.

Wow, that's great. I stand corrected. I wonder if user error is why it sometimes gives the
wrong estimate? Maybe I'll try to get ahold of Brad and see what it's doing and how it does
    it.That would be ...
