    ABOUT ME

  • Mike Ledlow
  • My best friend in college was a homebrewer and I got to watch him brew his first few batches and taste them, as well. This was back in the early nineties. Always wanted to try my hand at homebrew, but never had the time until recently. Was inspired by a Groupon from Midwest Supply in Chicago. Bought a starter kit and now I'm going to try brewing my first batch of Irish Red Ale.
  • Would love to try to make variations on wheat beer, which my wife loves. But, my favorite will be brewing different stout recipes and maybe a quad and a barleywine.
  • Primary 1: Boulevard Tank 7 clone
    Primary 2: Hefe
  • Don't plan on using a secondary for awhile.
  • ESB
  • Don't plan on using a keg.

  • Posted in thread: Unique BIAB Kettle Question on 04-20-2013 at 07:11 PM
I started out BIAB using a very cheap 7 gallon aluminum turkey fryer pot, then switched up to a
a very nice 15 gallon stainless steel polarware pot, with much more thickness. Both required
    some sort o...

I started in a Weber kettle, and still use it quite often -- and it works great. +1 on the
Weber Kettle. It's a great way to get started without breaking the bank. You can get used ones
    at garage sale...

I have done 8% ABV beers with 3711 and never had a problem carbing up quickly when bottling. I
don't think it will be an issue at 10%.But, if you want to be absolutely sure - try searching
    the forum o...

  • Posted in thread: I pitched my stir bar! on 04-01-2013 at 04:02 PM
When I got my stir plate earlier this year, I SWORE I wouldn't do this on my first pitch. Well,
I did it, too. LOL. I just put a magnet on the end of my long stainless steel spoon, hit it
    with santize...

  • Posted in thread: Adding coffee to light beer on 03-26-2013 at 03:28 PM
One of the members of my brew club adds whole beans to secondary, says it gives it a nice,
smooth coffee flavor. Never thought of making a toddy with the beer. How would you sanitize the
    coffee though...

According to this article: simply dry-hopped with freshly ground coffee beans.Eventually, they
discovered that the softness and citrus notes of an Ethiopian Sidamo produced a smooth coffee
    brew — and...

Thanks! That is confirmation of what I was thinking.I got the cherries-in-a-barrel concept into
my head because that is what they do at Boulevard brewery. Or at least that is what the guide
