No it doesn't work for that kind of stuff ,but you can sit across the kitchen and put the red
dot on a 2 L flask and see it get to 211 so you can quick turn it down.Before it boils

Had a little problem with overflow racking my 6 week old Gruagach Scottish ale from my 6 gal.
carboy in to a corny keg .I purged the keg and started siphoning then I let it overflow and

The problem is after stepping it up I still see no growth.But I have not checked SG as I didnt

That said should I make one more 2L wort and pour on decanted yeast flask to just sit instead
of chilling in fridge , while the other flask is on stirplate?
