A side note. You may have a poor seal on your fermenter. This would account for no bubbling
during fermentation. Not a big deal though. I just like to watch the bubbles.

Actually, do modern thermometers use mercury?If the color of the liquid is red it is not
mercury. I believe red ones are called Alcohol Thermometers. Who knows what type of alcohol.

I've never done this, or made mead for that matter, but cranberries might fit through the
