I brewed extract from '94-'98 in San Diego, but gave it up as we found we could buy better than I could brew- since we had the keg setup already, everything got switched over to sankey.
To make a long story short, I moved to Oakland in '05, and in '07 figured I needed a hobby and started up again (I still blame Sean O'Sullivan for this...). Did 1 extract batch, then 3-4 partial mashes, then jumped to all-grain. Moved to 12 gallon batches in 08, and brewed 22 batches that year alone.
Kind of an oddity, I brew at both ends of the gravity spectrum, but rarely in the middle. Most beers are around 1.050, then start again at 1.090. - Alt

I plan on doing sodas one day, but will just keep carbonated water on tap with multiple syrups
in hand pumps.I am interested in doing just this - swmbo likes lime-flavored carbonated water
etc., and i...Posted in thread: World Cup of Beer Homebrew comp is coming up! on 02-16-2011 at 11:42 PM

Thanks for posting the picture. What size (diameter) of galvanized ducting did you use? I
decided to go with the sq14 because of the larger size top for more balance with my keggle and
larger brew pot...Posted in thread: Anyone have opinions on Bayou SQ14 or SP10? on 02-12-2011 at 08:09 PM
You've already got it, so my 2¢ is kine of moot, but for others, here goes. The SQ-14 I used to
have I liked for the frame to hold a big kettle, but the burner can blow itself out when
cranked, so you...Posted in thread: World Cup of Beer Homebrew comp is coming up! on 02-10-2011 at 08:09 PM

Funny- I was just talking about this exact idea to product designer friend recently, but I lack

You may have hit on something there. Not lying flat would channel flow through the chiller, I
would think.I decided to do some tests - heating the H2O now and will post back w/
results.:mug:Posted in thread: Need some help/advice- Plate chiller eff issues? on 01-17-2011 at 05:44 PM
I think there's a really good chance that you are NOT counterflowing the two liquids through
the chiller. You really need the hot wort to hit the coolant on it's way out, that way as the
wort cools th...
