Once you locate and identify one of the rhizomes that's growing out from the crown, loosen the
soil below it and follow it back to the crown. You should be able to see if there's any life

It's fine, if you didn't open it up since you stored it in the refer. it should still be fine
to use. Just make sure you be it up to the correct temp before adding your yeast.
