    ABOUT ME

  • Started brewing close to the beginning of 2010. Have had some great batches and have had some bad batches, but learned from all of them.

  • Anything I can tap my feet to...and some rap.
  • Iron Man 1&2, Gladiator, Inception, The Hangover...and lots of others.

  • Brotherhood of War Series, Harry Potter Series, Eragon Series, $hit My Dad Says, Glen Beck books.
  • No brewing clubs yet, AOPA and NRA.
  • First experience with homebrew was drinking some my brother in laws best friend made, and realizing that it tasted better, got you feeling better faster and left your next morning a little easier to manage than Budweiser makes it. I started with the basic setup from my LHBS, attempted to move into kegging after my second batch, which has not gone well for me, can't get it to carbonate properly admist the umpteen different ways to do it. First batch was a pale ale, not a fan of pale ale but was told by the brew shop it was an easier recipe to make. Currently I have a brew stand and brew keg, still plugging away at partial mashes. Best recipe I have made to date was a cherry wheat, worst recipe was a dunkelweizen that turned out with no carbonation because the keg I put it in was leaking out the lid. I brewed my frist lager and it was delicious.
  • I plan on moving into all grain and eventually would like to start a microbrew operation.

The other option is a system in which the blowoff material actually returns to the fermenter.
They title it as a burton union system which isn't accurate, but the premise is similar. Here
    is a link th...

You never want to put hot wort into a glass carboy. Your best bet would be to chill the wort
before you pour it into the carboy, either with a chiller or an ice bath. If you don't have a
    chiller than ...

  • Posted in thread: Cold crash or slowly bring to lager temps? on 06-29-2012 at 08:07 PM
The schools of thought are one as stated above, the yeast are done so it shouldn't matter. The
other is that if you cold crash you could shock the yeast causing them to excrete protease
    enzymes which ...

  • Posted in thread: How do YOU know when fermentatio is done? on 06-27-2012 at 11:31 PM
The FG is more of a guide to know the ballpark of where your gravity reading should be after
fermentation, assuming full attenuation dependant on the yeast strain. When you take your
    reading and write...
