Another reason is that the plastic is more prone to allow oxygen permeation over time through
the material itself. AmandaK originally recommended glass, I found that a Cornie works well

Going on about 6months or so on my Intertaps with no problems so far. The stout spout does leak
quite a bit after pouring, but that's just the nature of the design.
