When I filter I use a cartridge filter I got from more beer.com, it was around the same cost as
the plate filter and works great. I run mine at about 5psi and it takes about 15-20 min to fill

I split starters all the time, all I do is make sure it's stirred very good and all the yeast
is mixed into the starter and not on the bottom of the flask and then pour 1/2 into one batch
