    ABOUT ME

  • I'm a student at the University of Kentucky. I have been brewing since early 2010 and started all grain after a couple months of extract brewing.

  • I got into homebrewing from my brother. He got into it when he moved to Houston for a semester to CO-OP at NASA because the guy he lived with (full time NASA guy) brewed. Once he moved back in with me I got into it and he kind of fell off the wagon. My friend and I took it to another level and haven't looked back since. Currently I use a 19 gallon cooler for a mash tun with a SS braid that wraps around and connects to a T fitting on the inside and ball valve on the outside. Boil kettle is a sanke keg. I use an IC and ferment in Sanke's with the spears taken out.

Anybody know if it would be pointless to do this with a single infusion? I don't have the
capabilities yet to do step mash temps. I really want to clone this beer though.

What are your prices on 5 gal Ball lock kegs? My brother is moving to Houston and I owe him a
keg but I figure he can get one cheaper in Houston than I can in Kentucky...

Exactly! Why not just drink an IPA with blinders on? Or use black food coloring.I am OK with
green beer for ST patties, or Orange beer when syracuse goes to the final four, but black beer
    just for the...

Well on mine I was basically going for a trick of the senses. I used Carafa III de bittered in
a small amount and didn't add it till about 5 minutes left in the mash. So, mainly it was just
    for color....

I did a sublimely clone (mainly grist bill) last month but did about 1.5 times the hops and
used F.F and Amarillo as flavoring and dry hop. Turned out very good.

When he says he adds the bacteria what does he mean? I thought brett was the bacteria. But he
says he adds brett than a couple months later adds the bacteria?

Cool. What are people that are connecting the collar to the top using to bind the two together?

  • Posted in thread: collar mounted to top or body of keezer? on 05-16-2011 at 08:15 PM
Connected mine to the top with a 1x8 oak collar, and it worked great. If I were choosing
between attaching to lid and base, I'd still go with lid. However, I'm thinking about redoing
    my collar for a f...

Is 3/4" wood not big enough? That is what I just cut. I haven't assembled yet. I am going to
glue foam insulation to the wood so hopefully that will help. The wood cost me $50 so I really
    hope 3/4" wi...
