    ABOUT ME

  • Started brewing in 1993 with 1 can of old pre-hopped extract and 1.5 pounds of corn sugar fermented at room temp. After 3 batches i went to steeped grains and 2 cans of unhopped extract and all grain 2 years later.
Now I do 10 gallon batches of all my own recipe beers, including sours and smoked beers.

Now I do 10 or 15 gallon batches on my 3 tiered propane fired system, an insulated box cooled by a window AC unit for my 12.2 gallon conical so I can brew year round here in the desert. I make all my own recipes and smoke my own malt for smoked beers.
Homebrewing has also led me to try my hand at cheese, sauerkraut, sausage, coffee roasting and vinegar making. In addition my wife and I plan our vacations around beer destinations like Europe, the Northeast and soon the Pacific NW, not just for the beer but places with good beer tend to be places with lots of other things to offer tourists.

I smoked 3 racks of back ribs Friday, then the wife and I made pulled pork rib sandwiches for
    lunch today.

I have a passive device that lets me listen to my stereo in the garage, backyard, front porch
and living room. Unfortunately it's tough to balance so that it doesn't shut the receiver down,
    and I'm cu...

I bet they do smell great. Having said that, this is why I've always preferred the freezer
option: I want that smell in my beer. Entirely dependent on having enough freezer space though.
    Lots of worse...

Highest levels of asshattery achieved! :) Very nice. I'm just jealous. Only got the vaguest
hints of cones here in Maryland. Are you going to dry them or just throw them in the
    freezer?They're drying ...

Not tying to be an a**hat but I'll get my first Cascade harvest today. I broke open a cone
yesterday figuring the first cones of the year won't be any good, but there's lots of yellow

Also keep in mind that shoots don't come off of all the roots-making arbitrary cuts 3' away can
in fact restrict root growth. Here's a pic of a 5 year old Cascade crown I dug up, it's in a

Anytime I have bines coming up more than a few inches from the main plant I'll take a sharp
shovel(use a file or grinder to sharpen it) and cut halfway between the main plant and the new
    shoot. Plant ...
